Australia: Arsonist Capital of the World?

I’ve been reading the news about the arson fires destroying the Australian bush. They’ve arrested about 20 people now, and still more fires are popping up. What I haven’t found anywhere is an explanation for this — why are there this many arsonists who have, almost simultaneously, decided to start fires around Sydney? Is it an arson gang? Copy-cats? If you’ve heard any explanations, please comment.
