March ExCom Minutes
Posted in Central Oklahoma Mensa on March 13, 2002
The monthly ExCom meeting was held this past Saturday. Angela Mabray, Mensokie editor and note-taker extraordinaire, provided us with the minutes. “Read More” to get the scoop…
The ExCom meeting was called to order at 11:28 a.m. on March 9, 2002. Angela Mabray, Billy Mabray, Nancy Park and Joe Widows were in attendance. Patty Kohn also joined the meeting via phone in order to have a quorum.
Nancy motioned that Joe Widows be appointed to the ExCom to fill the vacant position. The motion was carried unanimously.
Nancy mentioned that the National Mensa office attempts to have the monthly membership lists in the mail by the 9th of each month. Since this is about the same time COM has its monthly ExCom meeting, the membership information is rarely received before our monthly meeting. Nancy asked whether it would be worthwhile to move the ExCom meeting to the next Saturday. The group discussed this and decided that as long as the new membership data was received in time to be included in the Mensokie, the current meeting schedule would be fine.
Nancy suggested we consider creating a speaker meeting committee, in which a group of people are selected to come up with ideas for the monthly speaker meetings. They would pass the ideas on to the Programs Chair, who would make the arrangements.
Billy reported that a new webhost had been found for COM’s website (www.okmensa.org), and the total was $15 per year for the website. He suggested we consider options to pay for the website, such as selling vanity emails, having a tip jar, or including links to merchant sites that offer a referral bonus. Billy also reported that the website was entered in the annual Publications Recognition Program (PRP) contest.
Angela reported that the July, August and September issues of the Mensokie had been entered in the PRP contest as well.
Nancy moved to adjourn the meeting, and Billy seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 12:07 p.m.

Mensans tend to be good at brainstorming -- let's come up with some ideas for speaker meetings! What topics are you interested in? In what areas would you like to expand your knowledge? Having a few ideas stockpiled would probably help our Programs Chair coordinate interesting meetings each month...

Maybe it's just me, but I think it would be interesting to hear our Region 6 Chair, Dan Wilterding, speak. There seems to be a lot of controversy right now about the local group vs. national, and where Mensa is going. Dan could probably give us a perspecive on what goes on during those AMC meetings, on how Mensa money is spent, and his opinion of our structure. And he's said he's planning on coming to visit the group sometime anyway. What do y'all think? Would the average Central Oklahoma Mensan be interested?
