The Set Puzzle
Posted in Fun & Games on March 31, 2002
This puzzle is too hard for me, so I’m passing it along to the rest of the Mensans. The object of the game is to identify a ‘Set’ of three cards from 12 cards laid out on the table. Each card has a variation of four features (e.g. shape). A ‘Set’ consists of three cards in which each feature is EITHER the same on each card OR is different on each card. I think I’ll stick with Easter eggs — they’re much easier to find. :-)

I finally found them all after 21 minutes, 54 seconds. I'm curious how many people per day typically find the solution, and in what time frame. Haven't found anything about it on the site yet though...

I solved this one in 2 minutes and 9 seconds. Pattern recognition is a quality that some people have innately, and some people have to develop. Set lends itself nicely to "pattern recognition" kinda people. Actually, making patterns is a very useful tool in a lot of applications; one should get the hang of it if they can. Good luck with the other puzzles!
