Editor List Test Message

Posted in Local Editor Resources on May 16, 2002

I saw the discussion about having an archived version of the editors’ e-list, and I thought I would offer this website. The site is based on PHP Nuke, and the forums setup allows a story to be posted, then related comments to be posted underneath that story. So, for example, Angie R. would have posted her email about Editorialism as a story… then all the resulting emails on that topic would have been posted as comments responding to that story. Click ‘Read More’ below for more details on how this could possibly work for editors…

I’ve already created an Editors category (access by going to www.okmensa.org/editors or by clicking on the ‘Editors’ category at the upper-righthand side of the Forums page). No one would be required to create a username if they didn’t want to (all posting of stories and comments can be done anonymously), but I’ve sent a standard password to the editors list that anyone can use to create his or her own account (or just email me for the password).

Pros & Cons to this method (as I see them):

Pro: It allows for an archived system of communication. For example, if a new editor is wondering about postal regulations (or if an old editor has a sudden interest in it), they could use a site like this, which has all old stories archived, to search for postal info.

Con: We already have a nice email list that a lot of the editors are very comfortable using. A website approach probably wouldn’t replace that — some people prefer email, some may even have email access but not www access. If we introduce a new place to discuss things, will folks that don’t visit the website be left out, or will there be duplicate discussions in the two places?

Anyway, those are my thoughts on it. Post your thoughts below in the comments if you’d like. If we want an archive-able way of discussing editorial issues, then feel free to use this site for that.
