Membership Data on Disk
Posted in Local Editor Resources on July 27, 2002
For editors interested in receiving the monthly membership data on disk, the request form (must be approved by the LocSec) can be found here (Bulletin username/password required). The disk includes alpha listings, zip listings, and various other files — all in a comma-delimited text format handy for all kinds of sorting in Excel (or your spreadsheet of choice).
UPDATE: Dave Bowles (San Diego) generously offered his instructions for importing the membership data into an Access database. Click ‘Read More’ below for the details.
Importing Membership Data into Access:
- Open Access
- Click “Blank Database” and OK
- Name your file and save it where you want.
- Now you’ll see a window with your “file name” : Database in the title bar.
Make sure the Table tab is in front and click New. - Double click Import Table.
- Change Files of Type: to Text Files, find your file, and double click it.
- The Wizard allows you to format the table the way you want. In the first
window, click Delimited, and Next. - Click First Row Contains Field Names, and Next.
- Click In a New Table, and Next.
- Click Next unless you need specific field formatting other than text.
- Click Choose Your Own Primary Key, and select Member, unless you need a
different key, then Next. - Name your table, and click Finish. All done.
