The Alphabet Versus The Goddess

The worst of summer’s heat is past — and with the cooling weather comes the perfect opportunity to hitch up the hammock in the backyard and do that reading you intended to do all summer. If you’re looking for a recommendation, try The Alphabet Versus The Goddess, a nonfiction work by physician Leonard Schlain. Angie Richardson, editor of Mensa76’s Spirit of 76 newsletter, says, “The good doctor postulates that monotheistic religions came about solely because the invention of alphabetic writing affected the way our brains evolved and therefore the way our minds worked. Altogether fascinating stuff for Mensans. I highly recommend it to any word person and or any religious person; it’s very well documented and extremely well written.” Angie says the book is changing her perception about many ‘facts’ she learned in school. “Reading it will be a watershed point in my life, I think; I feel neurons forming and synapses snapping and crackling by the bazillions.” Sounds like interesting stuff… if any of y’all do pick it up, be sure to write a review for the Mensokie with your thoughts.
