April ExCom Minutes

Click ‘Read More’ for all the details on the April ExCom Meeting, aka “The Meeting That Was Not Completed In Record Time.” Notes provided by Billy Mabray.
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. on April 4, with a guarantee from TJ Lundeen that this meeting
would be completed in record time. In attendance were TJ and Jon Lundeen, Billy and Angela Mabray,
Tracye Dominici, Max Hedges, Nancy Park, Becky OâNeal, and John Haubrich. Absent were Patty Kohn
and Marcie Everhart.
TJ reported that she had contacted Donna Davis about the free membership she won at the Christmas party.
Donna did not know she had won, and has already paid her membership for then next few years. Donna
suggested the money go to someone needy in the
chapter. Since no one at the meeting knew of anyone who needed their dues paid, it was suggested that the money go to the scholarship fund. Everyone thought that was a right fine idea and Angela offered to contact Donna to see if she agreed.
There was no membership report. TJ informed
everyone that Janice Service is moving, and Roy
Fagan had passed away.
Next was the webmasterâs report. The website was recently redesigned. TJ asked for more information
about the mailing lists. The webmaster will write an article for the Mensokie to teach people how to use
the mailing lists. Also, it was announced that the
webmaster and webmistress would be attending the MindGames in Houston, TX, and would be filing
reports from there on the COM website.
Nancy, the Mensokie editor, asked TJ to be her
proofreader. TJ accepted. TJ mentioned that she would like to see more pictures from and write-ups about COM events.
TJ reported that they would be testing seven people on April 5, two of whom were members of the media.
John Haubrich will conduct this testing session, which will certify him as a proctor. TJ mentioned that we are unable to accommodate some disabled people who are interested in testing. She asked if it would be
possible to find psychologists we could refer them to who could perform the testing. It was agreed that we
would advertise the need both in Mensokie and on the COM website.
The question came up as to what to do if a member
became disruptive at an event. The host of an event, of course, has the right to ask anyone to leave for any reason. ExCom meetings must be open to all, but it was agreed that, in the case of physical abuse, the host might need some extra help. The Deputy LocSec was appointed to the positions of Bouncer, Couth
Control Chairman, and âHanginâ Animusâ (a title, which, even after looking it up, still confuses him), or Webmaster, for short.
TJ also noted that National had the wrong Mensa Phone number for our group on their website. The staff of the National Office fixed it immediately.
The calendar was discussed, and can be found
elsewhere in this issue.
The question was raised as to how to regain lapsed
members. Last year, Nancy personally wrote to all the
members who had not rejoined by the deadline. Jon said he would that this year.
Angela asked about getting reimbursed for the
Mensokie issues she paid to have printed for the
Publication Recognition Program competition. It was agreed that Patty could reimburse her.
John made a motion we adjourn, and Billy seconded. Jon wavered for a second, but finally agreed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:52 p.m. Not the longest meeting ever, but we still left room for improvement.
Some people lingered briefly for the after-meeting
meeting, while others retired to the tents they had pitched on the front lawn.
