May ExCom Minutes
Posted in Central Oklahoma Mensa on May 22, 2003
The Joyce Lundeen provided this month’s ExCom Minutes. Fifty-four minutes, to be exact. Click ‘Read More’ below for the full story…
ExCom present: Jon Lundeen, John Haubrich, Patty Kohn. Guests present: TJ Lundeen, Ben Northcutt, Becky OâNeal, and Nancy Park.
The meeting was called to its usual disorder at 7:04 p.m., May 7th. It was decided that since Billy Mabray was not present, the Minutes would be taken by TJ, which was probably the best way to keep the meeting short since she canât talk and listen and write at the same time.
The first item of business was
appointing a new member to the ExCom since Marcie Everhart has lapsed in her membership and cannot be on the ExCom. Patty nominated Tracye Dominici, John Haubrich seconded it, and the vote was unanimous. Tracye is now a member of the ExCom. Tracye had not been able to attend the ExCom meeting. This is a lesson on what happens to those who do not attend COM meetings. TJ said to keep moving, that she had a bet to keep.
Treasurer Patty reported that there was little to report, that she had received a $50 donation. She willingly accepted the $11 TJ then handed over from an impromptu book sale from over a month ago. TJ requested that we keep moving, that she had a bet to keep, and having to write in a straightforward manner was causing hand cramps.
Membership Officer John Haubrich reported that there was nothing to report since the end-of-month materials from National come before mid-month but after ExCom. This sounded a whole lot like one of those Mensa questions on a test, but we accepted that we would just have to start scheduling meetings later in the month. The Membership Officer might have said more, but he had a âboneâ to pick with a guest who had remained outside in the Sheriffâs Department car.
Editor Nancyâs report dealt with problems she was having with her computer and sending files electronically, and by the time the Editor and the LocSec got to discussing something about postscript, that sounded as if it would be a good time to end the public discussion. Besides that, TJ kept saying we needed to move along.
Calendar discussion was, however, in depth. ExCom was set for the first Sunday in
June, only because that date had been published
previously and couldnât be changed. The ExCom decided to try a Thursday night for the July meeting and see if that improved attendance.
Although bowling, TGIF and testing had already been set before the ExCom meeting, the ExCom decided to add two other events. The national office had sent verification that Test the Nation on Fox TV would be airing on June 9th. National expects that this will bring in many new prospects, so we need to gear up for a possible influx of test takers. The second new event was our Speaker Meeting. Ben Northcutt was smiled into being the June speaker. This is a lesson on what happens to those who do attend ExCom meetings. Ben is an expert on self-defense without a weapon â” other than yourself. Benâs going to show us how to protect ourselves and that the magic bullet for protection is not the kind that comes from a gun barrel; itâs our own awareness and preparedness. It is likely to be one of our better attended meetings given the state of society now.
John Haubrich wanted to go; Jon Lundeen and Nancy Park wanted to see the K-9 Cezar; TJ wanted to win her bet. So, we adjourned at 7:58. Haubrich says that we spent a scant 54 minutes because âBlowhard Billyâ wasnât there. TJ thinks it was her superior pushing of something other than her mouth.
Almost respectfully submitted,
The Joyce Lundeen
