Spring Art Show

Angela & I attended the Art Show Opening, hosted by Mensokie editor Nancy Park. “Read more” for my thoughts on the show—and if you attended, be sure and leave your impressions in the comments. There are also pictures from the event in the gallery.
We arrived “fashionably” late, so Nancy and the rest of the COM group had already gone inside. The event was held on the second floor of the museum, in a balcony area at the top of the stairs. Nancy was there with her husband, Josephus Widows. Louanne and Bruce Duckworth were also there.
We enjoyed the evening very much. The Art Guild put on a wonderful event, with good food, wine, and a lovely display of art. Angela & I filled our plates and glasses and made our way around the display. Each work had a small description, giving some insight into the visual “science” behind the piece.
To any regular reader of the Mensokie, Nancy’s painting were easily recognizable. The two she entered in the competion were excellent examples of her work. In fact, there were many beautiful paintings in the exhibit, representing a wide variety of styles. Many people do not realize what a thriving artistic community we have in this area.
We stayed for the award presentations, but decided we’d better go shortly after that, before we made another trip to the dessert table. Thanks again to Nancy for inviting us—we had a great time!

The art show wasn't as large as it usually is, and I found out that the Kirkpatrick will no longer be hosting the show, so next year look for a new venue.
I talked with one of the judges there, Cecil Lee, and didn't remember until I got home that he was one of my teachers at O.U! He is now a Professor Emeritus who works part time directing the gallery at the College of Arts and Sciences in Chickasha. Possibly the Art Guild will have the show there next year. Like Central Oklahoma Mensa, the Oklahoma Art Guild is not just for Oklahoma City!
