Celebrating Mensa Iceland's Launch
Posted in National Mensa on July 7, 2005
Mensans from all over are invited to join in the festivities as Mensa Iceland hosts its first testing session and works on building up their new group. Tourist activities are planned for August 17-19, 2005, before the testing session on August 20th and a follow-up party. Click ‘Read More’ for a list of the activities planned, or contact coordinator Lennart Edenfjord for all the details.
(From Lennart Edenfjord’s “Launch of Mensa Iceland” e-mail, posted to M-Events on June 29, 2005)
Among the activities planned are visits to:
- Geysir - Where the ground is full of hot springs of all shapes and sizes.
- Thingvellir - A spot situated between the continental shelves, where the Vikings held parliament a thousand years ago.
- Gullfoss - The most beautiful waterfall. When the sun shines there is always a rainbow.
- Kerid - An old explosion crater. Don’t worry, it’s been quite for nearly 3000 years, but you never know… :)
- Hiking up Mt. Esja (900m / 3000ft) - It takes about 4 hours and anyone in normal health can do it. From the top you can enjoy a gorgeous view over Reykjavik, Faxafloi Bay and the Reykjanes peninsula.
- Whalewatching - No trip to Iceland is complete without an introduction to the
gentle giants. Just ten minutes out from Reykjavik harbour should be enough to find some whales and if we’re lucky they are in a playful mood. - Blue Lagoon - Once a mere pool of spillwater from a geothermal plant, over the years it has turned into a spa complex.
