Blanketing Bob with Birthday Cards

Posted in Mensa In The News on May 17, 2006

Mensokie editor Nancy Park was kind enough to send us an update on Bob Strippy. Please click ‘Read More’ to learn how he’s doing and to find out how you can brighten his upcoming birthday.

Most of you are aware that a very respected and kind man was imprisoned over two years ago for assault with a deadly weapon. He was under assault at the time, and had been recovering from a broken leg. From fear, he brandished a gun at his assailant and ended up shooting and injuring him.

Bob Strippy will turn 72 on June 1st, still in jail. He is a Mensan, cultured and educated beyond the norm, with degrees from Harvard Divinity School and the Sorbonne. He is a PhD who was a child prodigy on the organ, and played the organ for his church until he was incarcerated. His genius extends to things not musical as well, and our loss of his willingness to share his knowledge has enriched the other prisoners where he is held in Virginia. He’s a terrific teacher.

This winter, from a lack of his regularly prescribed medications and a continually broken medical system in the prison system of Virginia, he nearly drowned in his own fluids when he caught pneumonia. Rushed to a hospital, finally, he was put on a nebulizer and he came back from the brink of death.

Bob is feeling better now, but it’s been known for some time that the only thing we can do for him is to write and stay in touch with him. If the body can’t be fed, the mind and soul still can.

His friends, including me, thought it would be delightful for him to be drowned in birthday greetings instead of edema. If you agree and would like to send him a card or letter, here’s his address:

Dr. Robert Strippy 332218 9-118
GRCC, 901 Corrections Way
Jarratt, VA 23870

Please be aware that he is not allowed to receive large envelopes or anything over an ounce. All those numbers next to his name are necessary for anything to reach him. I know he will be very grateful for an outpouring of your kindness.
