Join a cadre of your fellow Mensans and explore the mechanics of comedy and the role that humor plays in our lives.
Chicago Area Mensa, with the support of The Mensa Foundation and American Mensa, will present the Mensa Colloquium 2007: Aspects of Humor: the Art and Science of Laughter. We put together a weekend program to explore the two faces of humor. One face is the psychological, sociological, and medical aspect of humor, what it means to our understanding ourselves, what it means to our social interactions, and how it impacts our health. The second face will look at comedy, the mechanics, creation, and delivery of humor and how it makes us (and others) laugh. In addition to lectures by leading academic researchers in the field of humor, Colloquium registrants will attend moderated breakout sessions and comedy workshops to discuss the topics presented and try their hands at practicing the art.
Chair’s note: 100% of the comedians and psychologists consulted in the creation of this colloquium have assured us that understanding “why” something is funny does not take away the humor!
