A Loss in the COM Family

Posted in Central Oklahoma Mensa on May 20, 2008

TJ Lundeen that long-time COM member, Becky O’Neal, passed away suddenly this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Read more for TJ’s full announcement.

Central Oklahoma Mensa has lost its greatest friend and supporter, and the world has lost a wonderful woman. Becky O’Neal passed away suddenly this morning. Her granddaughter called me about ten minutes ago. She asks that we keep the family in our prayers. She reminded me how much Central Oklahoma Mensa meant to Becky, but I needed no reminder. She was like my sister, if one could pick one’s sister. It was Becky who made our chapter Christmas parties special; it was Becky who has been searching high and low with me for a place to host our next speaker; it was Becky who stuck with me night and day when Jon was in such terrible condition in the hospital. Very few of us who have been Mensans for more than several years would not have similar stories about Becky. Both in the chapter and outside the chapter, Becky befriended those who needed a friend.

There are not yet arrangements for the funeral. I will let you know as soon as there are. I know that our chapter will come out for her. The next few days are likely to be very long and very short simultaneously for Jon and me. Use my e-mail or phone (721-5064) for contact and leave a message with phone number if you need to be called back. I’ll be back to you with the family address, name of funeral home, and the details as I get them.

And please keep Becky’s family in your prayers, thoughts, or white light — however it is that you celebrate the life of someone special.

—TJ (Joyce) Lundeen
